I seem to have been donated a Gmail account. :D I think I get to invite three more people, although I haven't found how I do such yet. Assuming this is true, I'm going to copy Reuven and have a contest.

By any means you wish, convince me that I should invite you to have a Gmail account.

Have fun!

(I'm not actually sure how many people on my friendlist still don't have accounts but want them, so this could be rather boring. Oh well.)

Ditto my comment to Reuven - why should I want one? Between AIM, a college email account with (apparently) unlimited send/receive, and a bit of webspace, I have no need of the file-sending capabilities. I'm not even up to half storage on my 2MB Hotmail account yet, and a lot of that is probably stuff that can be safely deleted or was overlooked and should be deleted. Changing accounts would be a huge hassle - I've had this account for three years or more, and everything I need or want shows up there. The spam filter is actually rather effective, so despite the slowly increasing amounts of spam I'm receiving, I have no trouble keeping up with it. Moving would require informing everyone of my new address, or setting up forwarding, or something equally silly.

So why should I want one, other than for the name? Convince me that I want one and I'll enter your contest. (Since I have a vague feeling you might have at least one invite hanging around for a while.)

Oh, and Yahoo just changed to something virtually identical (http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail/static/efficiency.html). 100MB storage, 10MB message limit. More than enough for any sane person. Plus it pops up an alert on the messenger, which I've been running to get homework help (someone I met is a 3D grad with Maya skill, so I've been picking his brain), so it's even easier. It's not my primary email by any means, but if I want to send/receive music or something, that's where I'd direct it.

(I posted the same link on Reuven's, after your comment about leaving collge. Figured I'd repost in case you don't see that one.)

But it's YAHOO. Don't you feel any shame using it? :P

's why it's not my primary. If I could get my own domain, I'd use that. As is, I've had the Hotmail for so long that I don't care that it's Hotmail anymore, and the Yahoo's a secondary.

Besides, I use Yahoo a lot for games, and recently have been IMing people through it. The integration is nice.

I'm cute! And I'll give you hugs whenever I next see you! And I'll give you a place to stay if you ever visit Portland! Also, I'm too lazy to actually ever clean out my college account and it's dangerously close to filling up, and they're going to switch mail providers to something I'll probably like less soon!

Also, I know where my exclamation point key is! (Maybe that's a disincentive, actually.)

see, the thing with Gmail is...it sucks. you hafta agree to let them scan each e-mail sent and recieved and if they see a keyword like "computers", they put a text ad in the email such as "looking for a cheap computer? click here!" because the only way google stays so good is through companies paying so much money to be advertised anywhere humanly possible. also, this scanning means that, through a loophole, they have the right to read your emails. maybe they will, maybe they won't. but still, you're giving them the right too. now, that ain't cool. go with yahoo, the size of the account is great.

Heh, I bypass that too. I use Opera, with it set to "Allow only requested pop-ups," so if I click a link that's supposed to open a pop-up, it does, but nothing else. Plus I get awesome tabbed browsing, in a way that makes a lot more sense to me than Mozilla's. (I tried Firefox, or whatever the named browser is, and it's good, but it doesn't fit my browsing style.)

I'm all for consolidation whenever possible, especially if it means I get harassed less. I don't use MSN's messenger because it annoys me to death (pop-ups and whatnot), but having Yahoo's messenger and email integrated is wonderful. And my main Hotmail is linked on my homepage, which is a locally-stored custom link collection that I use all the time - hit the email link and it signs me in automatically. (Ah, the benefits of having your own computer.)

Though I've seen people elsewhere discussing gmail's interface, saying that it's incredibly intuitive and very fast (only one larger-than-icon-size image on the whole page). A screenshot or two might tempt me, though since it is still beta, I'm sure there's still issues.
